The Northamptonshire countryside is beautiful and full of wildlife, lush green views and small quiet villages. The poem's of John Clare describe these things wonderfully and have been the inspiration for this series of paintings which I have also turned into a calendar.
The lines of poetry are printed out in a range of colours before the painting is created. I then rip tear and cut the paper to form the final collage you see here. Sometimes I use a single line of poetry or the whole poem to direct the outcome of final painting. I also enjoy leaving parts of the poem visible for viewers to read in the final painting.
In 2017 I took a canal boat journey along the Nene river from Gayton to Oundle to prepare for a series of river paintings inspired by the journey. Different places have been depicted in order to illustrate what I saw along the way. Read more about my trip in my journal.
Most of my contemporary paintings are also available as prints and make great gifts for friends and family. If you can't see what you are looking for contact me.
