Stanwick Lakes Drawing Plein Air and Cake/Coffee - Lunch
Special Summer Event: Plein Air Sketching & Social at Stanwick Lakes
I am absolutely delighted to invite our wonderful community of studio friends to a special summer get-together on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at the beautiful Stanwick Lakes Nature Reserve.
This morning is designed as a relaxed, joyful opportunity for us to gather outside the traditional classroom setting; we will spend a couple of hours socializing, walking the paths, and sketching plein air amidst the stunning seasonal landscape.
What to Bring:
- Your Sketchbook & Graphite Pencils: For capturing the core lines of the reserve.
- Coloured Pencils: We will be exploring ways to introduce vibrant, expressive tones to our outdoor work.
- A Portable Chair: A lightweight folding or camping chair will ensure you can sketch in complete comfort anywhere along the perimeter.
A Few Creative Surprises: Alongside our standard drawing, I will be bringing along a few unique, seasonal subjects for us to study, as well as some alternative materials to add texture and depth to your pages.
Refreshments & Catch-Up: Following our creative session, we will head over to the Visitor Centre Cafe at noon. I would love for you to join me for a cup of tea, a coffee, some lunch, or a slice of cake so we can enjoy a proper chat and celebrate the summer together.
Logistics & Parking: We will gather outside the main Visitor Centre entrance at 10:00 AM sharp. Please note that parking at Stanwick Lakes is standard automated ticketing: £4.00 for up to two hours (perfectly covering our sketching session) or £7.00 for the full day should you wish to remain on-site and explore the trails further.

I have been a teacher of art for 18 years at a secondary school in Northampton. I now split my time between teaching children at school and adults in private lessons and also make my own unique nature inspired artwork.
The wide range of habitats such as the rugged coastline, mountains, wildflower meadows, wetlands, marshes, woodlands, hills, and dales of the United Kingdom are full of a diverse range of animals and birds. These offer endless inspiration for my artwork and this enthusiasm is seen in the colours, textures and atmosphere I apply to my paintings.
My artwork frequently uses a range of mixed media techniques that have also incorporated words. In recent years this has become more important and now collage is a major part of my work which often uses words poetry as well as paint. The lines of various poems have been woven into my imagery - segments of which can be read.
