This is a 'painting' made using collage techniques from the words of the famous Northamptonshire poet John Claire. His words have been meticulously used to create collage techniques that reveal lines of poetry and can be read within the picture.
My inspiration comes from nature and the local environment of lakes, rivers, a woods where I live. This painting shows the old mill that once stood at the village of Bozeat with an owl silently flying past in the moonlight. The words of the poem add a bit more magic to my imagination and allow you to see into the world of the poet and me - the artist!
The Poem collaged into this painting:
Evening
by John Clare
Barn door fowls have gone to bed
Though the sun is two yards high
Ere it reach the top lands head
That takes days lamp from out the sky
Now the horses round the cribs
Brouzes o'er the coarser hay
While the ploughmen comb their ribs
'Till the evening wanes to grey.
Then the boy with speach all hoarse
Mocking the echo in the wood
Brings the cows from their green close
That in the hovel chew their cud
Now the owl on wheaten wing
And white hood scowling o'er his eyes
Jerking with a sudden spring
Through three-cornered barn hole flies.
The sun is sinking low and red
A coal turned dim from gazing
Among the oak-trees goes to bed
And sets the woods a blazing
The dewy leaves will quickly drop
And daylight close his eye
And labours rustic sounds will stop
'Neath evenings quiet sky
The Owl on Wheaten Wing
I really enjoy seeing the scenes emerge on the board as I work and they are a realization of ideas which are carefully planned using photographs, patterns and of course my own experiences in the countryside in Northamptonshire and beyond in the United Kingdom.
I accept commissions and can make a painting with virtually any starting point, photograph or poem. On my website you will see landscapes, animals, birds and portraits all using my word art techniques. Please get in touch if you want to learn more about my work. I would love to hear from you.
