As an artist I have always enjoyed painting the dramatic and wild landscapes of the British Isles. Using layers of colour and texture, as well as applying the paint using a variety of expressive marks I aim to capture the essence of the places I visit.


This print will look fantastic in a home or business environment and add character to any interior. The paintings are made following trips on location where photographs and drawings are made to work from in my studio. Within the images you will also notice I have used dried flowers and plants as well as other materials to create extra intrigue.

Acrylic paint is the versatile medium that Jamie has used to make these paintings. The surface of his work is prepared before  being being worked into with the paint. Jamie uses layers materials that include sack cloth, cardboard, textured wall papers, tissue papers, plaster and also pressed flowers which he has collected. The relief, textured surface offers up opportunities for unexpected results when the paint is applied. Both thin washes, splatters and drips and glazes as well as heavy impasto paint mediums are added with fingers and paint knifes as well as brushes giving the work spontaneity. 

Jamie's artwork frequently uses a range of mixed media techniques that have also incorporated words. In recent years this has become more important and now collage is a major part of his work which often uses words poetry as well as paint. The lines of various poems have been woven into his imagery - segments of which can be read. 

The wide range of habitats such as the rugged coastline, mountains, wildflower meadows, wetlands, marshes, woodlands, hills, and dales of the United Kingdom  are full of a diverse range of animals and birds. These offer endless inspiration for Jamie's artwork and his enthusiasm is seen in the colours, textures and atmosphere he applies to his paintings.
